Options for reporting sexual harassment

èßäÊÓƵapp reporting sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence or stalking have the right to choose to pursue a criminal process, an èßäÊÓƵapp internal grievance process or both processes. èßäÊÓƵapp may also choose not to file a grievance or pursue criminal charges. The internal grievance process and the criminal process, which are independent of each other, can be pursued at the same time. 

èßäÊÓƵapp urges anyone who has experienced sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence or stalking to alert police as soon as possible. èßäÊÓƵapp èßäÊÓƵapp authorities can notify law enforcement authorities, at the victim’s request.

To report to police and pursue criminal charges

On èßäÊÓƵapp, èßäÊÓƵapp Police can be reached at 911 from a èßäÊÓƵapp phone; at 214-768-3333 from a cell phone; or by utilizing a blue-light phone on èßäÊÓƵapp at any time.

In the case of an off-èßäÊÓƵapp incident, students should call 911 to reach police in that jurisdiction or call 214-768-3333 to reach èßäÊÓƵapp Police, who can connect callers with police in the appropriate jurisdiction.

Those who wish to anonymously provide information regarding suspicious or criminal activity to èßäÊÓƵapp Police may call 214-768-2TIP (2847) or submit information online at . The form may be submitted anonymously or with a name and contact information.

To report to èßäÊÓƵapp and pursue an internal grievance process

èßäÊÓƵapp can report all forms of sexual harassment, including sexual assault, to èßäÊÓƵapp’s Title IX Coordinator and can pursue an èßäÊÓƵapp internal grievance process. To reach the èßäÊÓƵapp Title IX Coordinator, call 214-768-3601 or email accessequity@smu.edu.

To file a complaint of Title IX sexual harassment including all forms of sexual harassment, please complete the Title IX Sexual Harassment Complaint Form. To make a third-party report of Title IX sexual harassment, please complete the Title IX Sexual Harassment Third-Party Report Form.
