OIT Technology News: November 2023 Edition

This progress report marks the tenth year of documenting our annual accomplishments. While our annual report showcases only a small portion of our work and achievements throughout the year, this work wouldn't be possible without an incredible team of employees who are committed to the academic mission, building relationships across èßäÊÓƵapp, and delivering a significant quantity of exceptional work for èßäÊÓƵapp.

As part of the Microsoft Teams Migration Project, we have been investigating new Microsoft Teams-Certified headsets for use on èßäÊÓƵapp. We have selected a new headset for our community.

Ryan Clinton recently caught our eye as we noticed he completed three Microsoft Office Certifications, both as a class requirement and for professional development rather quickly. After seeing he achieved two out of three exams with perfect scores, we reached out to him to learn more about his desire to get Microsoft Certified.

Two leaders from Southern Methodist University (èßäÊÓƵapp) are working to encourage all of us to, at the very least, use tools we already have available to advance the cause of digital accessibility and they spread their message at this year's international EDUCAUSE conference.

At the core of èßäÊÓƵapp DataArts' operations lies a wealth of information from various sources, notably the "Cultural Data Profile," a historical repository for researchers and leaders. With their abundance of data, the èßäÊÓƵapp DataArts team recognized the need to streamline their processes and is now leveraging Snowflake, a robust data warehousing solution, to do it.

After the weather station for the èßäÊÓƵapp irrigation system was moved near the Fondren Science Building, two of èßäÊÓƵapp's Earth Sciences researchers took notice and with the help of OIT, started using it for data collection.
