Q&A with Evan
What is the best part about your current position?
Everything! Love the challenge, èßäÊÓƵapp, and ability to fully stretch my creative muscle.
What is the most interesting or enjoyable thing that you have gotten to do in your career?
Working on The Last of Us. It was a true honor that I feel extremely lucky to have experienced.
Why did you choose to get your education from the Guildhall?
As as academic at heart, USC was tempting from a theory perspective, but seeing as I was going for my Master's, the practical skill based curriculum coupled with former industry pros as teachers was much more important.
How did the Guildhall prepare you for your career in gaming, and what impact has it had on your life?
The Guildhall prepared me for everything from crunch to the launch party. As for impact, it not only got me into the industry but I also have a built-in network of friends that continues to grow stronger as we all become more experienced and acquire more senior positions.
What is your favorite Guildhall memory?
Not sleeping for two days straight to finish up Team Game Project 1. That little game we crunched on was not only an incredible bonding experience, but it also changed all of our lives forever when it won several rewards. One of my all-time greatest memories.
What advice would you offer for students looking to get into gaming?
Have a lot interests. Even within the past 5 years I've been in games, the industry has changed immensely! It's easy to overlook games as purely an entertainment industry and forget that it's also about rapidly evolving technology. Getting into the industry for a very specific genre or interest is incredibly risky as the industry innovates at break neck speed, so making sure you enjoy the challenge and process of making games as opposed to dreaming to work on a specific type of game will prove to be immensely useful for students preparing for a career in games.
